Let’s help the tiniest victims in Haiti! Do your spring-cleaning early and clean out the kid’s closets! Giggles & Coos is collecting items now to donate to the smallest victims of the Haiti Earthquake. We will be giving the items to Harvest Time International to be sent. In addition to clothing, they are also looking for baby formula, blankets, cereal, children’s diapers, nutritional drinks, pedialyte, powdered milk, soap, toys, and underwear (new only). They are in desperate need of diapers and baby formula!

Please bring anything you might have to donate to the boutique.

My Child

If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd finger paint more and point the finger less.
I'd do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch and watch more with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious and seriously play.
I'd run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I would be firm less often and affirm much more.
I'd build self-esteem first and the house later.
I'd teach less about the love of power and more about the power of love.

I've been wanting to order from Coco Bonbons for some time now and I've finally received my first shipment of some pieces today. They are so stinking cute. For girls, we have a bubble with a crochet owl on the front... it has the cutest flower and owl pattern fabric. Owls are hoot right now!! In the same print, we have a reversible dress and bloomers. A good friend came over yesterday to review her Giggles and Coos' baby registry and to figure out what to buy for the arrival of her son. And, not until she filled a legal pad of paper with two columns of stuff, did she realize that there's so much to buy for a kiddo. For a new parent it is an overwhelming task. It got me thinking about my preparation for Stanton. Beyond the bottles, nipples, pacifiers and so forth the best gifts I received and the things I used most were not the practical items.

Expecting parents certainly need all of the gear that comes with bringing a life into the world. I'm sure all of our Grandma's think us new Moms are crazy for having a wipe warmer, bottle warmer, diaper genie, vibrating chair, automatic swing, all the things that they didn't have when raising their kids. Honestly, it makes things easier and gets you through those tough first weeks. But, the things I cherish most beyond my conveniences are those gifts that last longer, have more personality and show a little love. This is why we started Giggles and Coos. My Mom and I hope that friends and family can go beyond the Babies r Us registry and find that one item that a little one will keep forever. A sweet Angel Dear Blanky, monogrammed blanket, or precious outfit that can be past down to a sibling. I know it seems like shameless self promotion, but it truly is why we do what we do. A very dear friend of mine sent this to me in an email and I believe that if we all start to focus on the positive things in life the world might be a brighter place! : )

"Does the idea of standing in front of a mirror and appreciating your positive qualities feel uncomfortable and stupid? It did to me-which was a sign that I really needed to try it. I first learned this mirror exercise in 1990, when I took a week-long course from my mentor, Jack Canfield, on self-esteem. Jack assigned the exercise as homework every night, saying, "Make sure you do this behind a closed door so nobody walks by and thinks you're crazy." Each night my roommate and I took turns going into the bathroom, shutting the door, and whispering sweet nothings to our reflections: "You're kind." "You're loyal." "You have a loving heart." The first night, I felt like a California New Age woo-woo nutcase, but soon I experienced a rush of sadness; I was such an expert at judging myself-why was it so hard to say nice things? With practice, it gradually became easier to list reasons to love myself: "You're smart." "You go out of your way to help others." And so on. But the real power of this exercise came when I learned to express appreciation for myself for no reason-to look myself in the eye and simply love who I was, unconditionally. If you're like most people, consciously recognizing the positive about yourself may feel conceited. After all, we're raised not to "toot our own horns." So we end up not giving ourselves credit or acknowledgment or even worse, beating ourselves up, which shuts down our hearts, contracts our energy, and decreases our happiness levels.

Doing the research for my book Happy for No Reason, I interviewed scores of scientists along with one hundred unconditionally happy people (I call them the Happy 100). One of the things I discovered is that truly happy people have a compassionate, encouraging, and validating attitude toward themselves. This isn't arrogance or self-centeredness; it's an appreciation and acceptance of who they are. Learning to see the positive about yourself starts by changing your brain's habit of focusing on your negative experiences and instead inclining your mind toward joy.

So today, begin registering your happy experiences more deeply-- consciously look for them. You can make it a game you play with yourself. Have the intention to notice everything good that happens to you: anything you see, feel, taste, hear or smell that brings you joy, a "win" you experience, a breakthrough, an a-ha, or an expression of your creativity-the list goes on and on. This intention triggers the reticular activating system (RAS), a group of cells at the base of your brain stem responsible for sorting through the massive amounts of incoming information and bringing anything important to your attention. Have you ever bought a car and then suddenly started noticing the same make of car everywhere? It's the RAS at work. Now you can use it to be happier. When you decide to look for the positive, your RAS makes sure that's what you see. Adelle, one of the Happy 100, told me about a unique method she has for registering the positive. As she goes about her day, she gives away awards in her mind: the best-behaved dog award, the most colorful landscape design at a fast food drive-through award, the most courteous driver award. This keeps her alert to the beauty and positivity that is all around her. Charmed by this idea, I tried it myself. I liked it so much, I've been giving out these "Happiness Oscars," as I call them, ever since. Once you notice something positive, take a moment to savor it consciously. Take the good experience in deeply and feel it; make it more than just a mental observation. If possible, spend around 30 seconds, soaking up the happiness you feel. If you want to accelerate your progress, take time every day to write down a few of your wins, breakthroughs, and things you appreciate about others-and about yourself.

You'll know you've really mastered this when you can give yourself an Academy Award-for outstanding achievement in true happiness!"

Is it a boy or is it a girl?!?

A few of my friends are pregnant right now however they aren't far enough along to find out what they are having yet. I can remember those first few months of excitement and anticipation wondering what you are having. Going through boy and girl names, and of course, disagreeing with your husband when really there is no need to disagree yet since you don't even know if it is a boy or a girl. So, in honor of my friend's anticipation, I thought I would post a few of the old wive's tales for determining the gender of your baby! Please let us know if you try any of these and how they turn out.

Old Wive's Tale #1: Gender Prediction Quiz

Here is a link to a quiz that will predict your babies gender based on the answers you give to 15 questions. I took the quiz for my pregnancy with Stanton and it did indeed say I was having a boy!

Old Wive's Tale #2: Baby's Heart Rate

One of the popular theories on baby gender prediction is based on the baby's heart rate.
The theory states that if your baby's heart rate is 140 beats per minute and above, you would be having a girl. If the heart rate is under 140 beats per minute, then you would be having a boy.

Old Wive's Tale #3: Needle or Wedding Ring Gender Prediction Method

This an easy baby gender prediction method to try. Take a pin, needle, or wedding ring and attach it to a thread or strand of hair. Hold the dangling item over mom to be's belly while she is lying down. If the needle or wedding ring swings in a strong circular motion, you will be having a girl. If it moves in a to and fro motion like a pendulum, you will be having a boy. An alternate version of this baby gender prediction method is to dangle the needle or wedding ring over the expectant mom's wrist instead of belly.

Old Wive's Tale #4: Chinese Gender Chart

Legend states that the Chinese Gender Chart was buried in a royal tomb near Beijing over 700 years ago. The original is allegedly currently in the Institute of Science in Beijing.
Rumors have it that this chart is over 90% accurate when used properly but please remember that this chart is for entertainment purposes only.

The chart uses the mother's chinese age at the time of conception and cross references that with the chinese lunar month of conception.

No way of predicting your babies gender is completely 100% accurate but is fun to try!! Most people wait until after their 16th week to have an ultrasound to predict the gender.

Wooden Growth Charts

We have an airplane chart for the boys and a flower chart for the girls. They each hold 3 photos of your child and have a magnetic tracker (a parachuter and a butterfly) that slides up and down the chart. You can also write in the dates with any felt tip marker! I just wanted to clarify the Boutique's return policy. Please know that the return policy is also printed on the bottom of each receipt.

Cash refunds and credit card credits will be given within 7 days of purchase when accompanied by a cash register receipt. Refunds will be given in the form paid. Items returned within the 7 days without a receipt will receive store credit valid up to 1 year. Gifts returned without a cash register receipt can be exchanged for a different item or you will receive store credit valid up to 1 year (unless items are a sale purchase). All items being returned must be in good condition and unused. (This does not apply to items being returned because of a manufacturer's defect.) Sale purchases are final. Please inspect items carefully before buying them.

We try to be as flexible as possible with our return policy especially with items received as gifts. However, there are some items that are seasonal and we are unable to take them back. So please be timely in getting into the boutique to make your exchanges.

Sometimes I even surprise myself. Today I received a package from Pediped and was completely certain that they shipped me someone elses order. I was almost tempted for FedEx to keep it and return it to Pediped. However, I thought, let me call Pediped first to double-check. Well, it turns out, that the shoes are in fact my order!
